Endoscopic Interventions and Operative Management – A Surgeon’s Perspective & Panel Discussion – Rishi Reddy

In this session, Dr. Rishi Reddy presents a surgical perspective on the management of esophageal anastomotic leaks, focusing on operative decision-making, infection control, and source control strategies. Topics include drainage techniques, the use of systemic antibiotics, and integration of endoscopic therapies into surgical care pathways. The presentation is followed by a multidisciplinary panel discussion with Drs. Reddy, Haidry, and Awais, moderated by Monisha Sudarshan and Ernest Chan. The panel explores areas of ongoing debate, including the use of intraoperative ICG, prophylactic stenting, and muscle flaps for cervical leaks, highlighting the importance of individualized, team-based approaches informed by patient factors and institutional experience.

This presentation was part of the webinar on When Anastomoses Go Wrong: Mastering Leak Management After Esophagectomy held on December 18, 2025. Moderated by Monisha Sudarshan and Ernest Chan the webinar ended with a brief panel discussion and responses to audience questions.
