The Chicago Classification categorizes esophageal motility disorders in high-resolution manometry tests depicted with color pressure topography plots. Applying standardized HRM metrics to categorize esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia, EGJ outflow obstruction, and hypercontractile esophagus, is a primary objective of this hierarchical classification scheme.
The ISDE (International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus) hosted a virtual presentation on the changing definitions of esophageal disorders covering what’s new in Chicago Classification #4 including new diagnosis and manometry testing of esophageal motor disorders, and refractory GERD.
