Changing Definition of Refractory GERD – Frank Zerbib

The Chicago Classification categorizes esophageal motility disorders in high-resolution manometry tests depicted with color pressure topography plots. Applying standardized HRM metrics to categorize esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia, EGJ outflow obstruction, and hypercontractile esophagus, is a primary objective of this hierarchical classification scheme.

The ISDE (International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus) hosted a virtual presentation on the changing definitions of esophageal disorders covering what’s new in Chicago Classification #4 including new diagnosis and manometry testing of esophageal motor disorders, and refractory GERD. This live presentation was recorded on May 13, 2021, and moderated by Ronnie Fass, Metro Health Medical Center (USA).
